Caught Being Reverent

Today my daughter brought home a CBR shield from primary. She was so excited about it, but didn't really know what it was. I explained to her that CBR stands for "Caught Being Reverent" and is part of learning to Choose The Right.

The past few months in primary we have put a strong emphasis on being reverent and respectful to the people who are teaching, and the children who are trying to learn and feel the spirit. The kids are doing a great job! Each Sunday, a member of the presidency will be watching the children and award a CBR shield to those who are sitting quietly and participating.

Earning a shield is not easy. It can be difficult to sit quietly when friends are talking, if kids have papers in their hands to crinkle, or if the temptation to rock back on the chair is overwhelming. Sometimes the opportunity for a silly comment is just too great to pass up! We have a good-sized primary, and even though we are watching for reverent children, we may not always notice every child that is being respectful. If your child doesn't bring home a CBR shield, it doesn't mean that he wasn't reverent; we may have just missed him among all the other reverent children.

When your child does bring home a CBR shield, you can decide what you want to do about it. For many kids, just being recognized for good behavior can be enough to give them a warm fuzzy feeling. Other kids may need a little more help. Today I sat down with my daughter to decide on something she'd like to have, and we determined how many CBR shields she would have to get to earn that item. Perhaps you have goodies that could be purchased with 1, 2, or 5 shields. Regardless of what you do with your children's CBR shields, discuss it with them and let them know you appreciate their efforts to be reverent and respectful. It is a wonderful trait to develop and carry into adulthood.

We want to welcome Rick Moon, Kristen Mifflin and Ron Zeeman to our primary family!  We are so grateful to have them with us.  They are going to be awesome teachers for our most cherished blessings!

Every week we welcome two or three volunteers from our little congregation to share a scripture or a scripture story they like with the rest of us.  Our volunteers then get to put a jewel in our scripture treasure chest (because we "treasure up the scriptures").  Putting a jewel in the treasure box is very exciting, as you can imagine.  The good news is that we have some very eager volunteers!  The not so good news is that they don't have a scripture in mind to share.  SO, to that end, we have decided to try sending a note home each week with a couple of kids asking if they would come ready to share a scripture the next Sunday.  If your child happens to be the lucky recipient of one of these notes, please know that we are only looking for 30 to 120 seconds of "sharing a favorite scripture or scripture story."  We're hoping that this will help move along this particular part in our opening exercises.

There will be no Primary activity this month.  I know the ward program had it on the calendar a couple of weeks ago, but it has since been removed.

Two weeks ago, we handed out cds that have our Sacrament meeting program songs on it.  We sent home one per family.  Please whip that thing out and throw it in the cd player every once in a while so we can be awesome in September when we do our program!

Thank you!
